waiting for the other shoe

That's how I feel tonight. As if I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. The world just seems a bit off-kilter even though it's not. At least, I don't think it really is.... I think it's just my perception of things at the moment.

I have a doctor's appointment on Friday that I have to go give blood for this Tuesday and the kids start back to school on Thursday and I haven't done a single bit of school shopping and the only day I'm off work this coming week is tomorrow. I'm working 6 days this week because someone is on vacation & oh, it's going to be a really long week.

Tonight is fairly quiet which is actually really good because I'm tired. Not like go to bed tired but just tired in my mind. Does that even make sense?

A new girl starts training with me on Tuesday and that should be fun. They say she's worked with this particular system before so I'm hoping that it won't take much for her to get the hang of things. I've not ever really had to train anyone. Mrs. Betty doesn't count because she never did get the hang of anything. That was less about my teaching and all about the fact that she had NEVER used a computer before. She was upfront about it too & while she eventually got the basics down, she ended up not staying here to work. I loved listening to her stories from when she first started out in a hotel (in the 50s) and how everything was done by hand. So it should be an interesting week to say the least.

My sister has grated my last nerve. She woke up Saturday morning unable to see out of her eye and her eye doctor can't see her until Tuesday at the earliest. So I asked her when she was telling me about it if she had told them she was unable to see at all. I didn't get an answer. They tried to get her to have some sort of surgery on her eye a couple of years ago but she never went through it and so she was telling me today she wasn't really surprised by her current problems. It's all I can do to keep my teeth together about the situation. If you've known that something was wrong for at least 2 years, why haven't you done anything about it? -sigh-

I'm watching the news where they are showing the celebrating that is going on in Tripoli.

I think I'm going to go read a book since it's so slow in here & keep waiting for that other shoe. I need more optimism in my life.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 11

Things I am grateful for today

1. Chris went with me grocery shopping for the few things I missed yesterday.

2. I had a chance to read a book.

3. I cooked a real meal, something I haven't done in ages.

4. I made a cake that was so good that I had to hide it because we all kept picking pieces off of it.

5. Being able to sleep in.

Just a few random thoughts

I had wanted to do a wordless post until I realized that I haven't taken any decent pictures lately. There's something about using a camera phone that irritates me although it's probably just because I have the worst camera phone EVER. I traded phones with Nick months ago because he wanted a more high tech phone & while I'm pleased with call quality, I'm most definitely not pleased with its camera capabilities. I'm eligible for an upgrade now but for some reason, I find myself holding out. (I keep teasing that it's for the iphone 5 but that's not really the reason.)

I got the opportunity to cook tonight & it was so good. I was impressed with myself since I rarely get the chance to cook anymore. When you work 3 to 11pm 5 nights a week, that doesn't leave much time for cooking. Chris does more of the cooking than I do but I love to immerse myself in it on my days off. I bake often even with my schedule so I'm glad the chance to cook a real meal tonight.

I keep looking at my phone like it's going to do something other than sit there. I had a conversation with someone the other day who was complaining about my schedule and how it inconveniences this person... wtf? I'm the one working the schedule. Your convenience is the least of my concerns.

I have some insurance things to take care of this coming week. Nothing really major I don't think... just little things that need to be done before they blow up into big things.

I'm out of here. Going to watch a movie or something and go to bed early. It's been a really long week.

I guess Sunday evenings are it

I keep saying to myself how I'd like to blog more often & I wish I had more time blah blah blah... but then the time I do have I end up spending doing other stuff... like folding laundry. Or reading other blogs. Or working. I end up doing everything but writing.

I guess it's one of those things that I shouldn't be trying to force. If it happens, it happens and for the first time in a really long time, I'm genuinely okay with that concept. Up until now, I've not written and it hasn't been okay with me but I didn't know how to either correct the situation or make peace with it. Now I've figured out how to do both.

This past week was packed with activity. I really don't like weeks like that because I end up feeling so rushed but that's how this one was. Beth had her procedure on Tuesday and she did really well. They gave her a sedative and within 30 minutes she was asleep. It didn't fully wear off for about 5 hours so when we got to the house, she ended up taking a nap.

We had to replace the air conditioner. It was an expense that I didn't want to have to take on but when it's 115 degrees outside, going without one is NOT an option.

Bright side: When I woke up on Wednesday morning, I had to put on long sleeves instead of my tshirt/nightgown because I was cold. I now realize how poorly the old unit was working and we were blaming it on how hot it had been. One of those "Oh it was 109 degrees today so of course it's going to be warm in the house..." What was really happening is that the air conditioner was old and giving out. It has been comfortable in my house every day this week.

Work is going pretty good. We were full Thursday and Friday night. Almost that way last night after a slow start and tonight it's just really slow. I'm not feeling the best in the world thanks to mother nature so I'm not complaining about it. Just taking it as it comes.

School starts back in another couple of weeks. Beth is looking forward to it. She took her hunter safety education course yesterday and today and passed her test with a 96. I know she's excited about doing so well. So now they've all had the course and we don't have to go through it again ever.

I think I am going to take this slow down as an opportunity to go eat my spaghetti. Chris made it a couple of days ago and it is so good.
