GIST - The Sunday Edition # 49

Things I am grateful for today

1. Today is National Coffee Day. If you went to any of the big coffee stores (Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, etc) they would give you a free small coffee. McDonald's, in having to do things differently, is giving away free coffee until the 3rd of October (also known in these parts as Chris's birthday.) Despite my well documented love of all things java, I have not and won't be partaking of any free coffee product from any location. Mostly because there are few coffee places that make coffee as good as I can make it myself. And also because there isn't a Starbucks or a Dunkin' Donuts around for miles and miles and more miles.

2. I had a doctor's appointment on Friday. I was on the cancellation list because he didn't have any available appointments for a month so when they called me Thursday afternoon and said he had an opening for Friday at 9am, I took it without thinking twice. Fortunately I was off work on Friday. The appointment ended up taking way longer than normal. (Aside: When you are already behind schedule by your 3rd appointment of the day, you are doing something wrong. Or over-scheduling yourself. Or your front office is over-scheduling you. Point is that it is ridiculous.)

3. In the good news/bad news way that my doctor is famous for: Good news: My blood sugar is/has been/continues to remain under control. I have consistently had an a1C in the 6.0 - 6.5 range so he is super pleased with that and told me to stop testing so often. He is not so pleased with the stalled out weight loss and wanted to put me on a new drug that is a diabetes drug but also causes weight loss. I declined. His miracle diabetes drug of last caused thyroid problems. I don't want to be anyone's guinea pig anymore. My body likes the weight it is at and I feel pretty good. Bad news is I have a condition called hyperreflexia and apparently it is a brain/spinal cord combination isssue so he wants to do a lumbar puncture and a brain imaging to see what is going on in both of those regions. I am processing all the news, good and bad and will make some decisions soon.

4. Chris brought home the memory card from his trail camera last night and we went through all the pictures. The camera had been up just over 4 days and had 658 pictures on it, 521 of them had deer in the photos. This morning we sat and watched the slide show and I was completely entranced with the itty bitty baby deer that showed up in the photos.

5. I am at work and it has been a pretty good evening so far. I am hurting. I feel like I have the flu (which I probably will get now that I got a flu shot on Friday) and my nerves are all twitchy. I would really like to not get sick right now because Chris's birthday is coming up and I have a few days off from work.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 48

Things I am grateful for today

1. I have had the entire weekend off. My birthday is tomorrow (37 years old I will be) so I took the weekend and tomorrow since we get a paid day for our birthdays. I love paid days off.

2. I got to see some really cool cars as part of the peanut festival that Dublin had yesterday. Elizabeth went to the parade and the fair they had and she got me earrings as a birthday present. They are really pretty. Also, heavy as I put them in my ears to try them on. I will definitely get some wear out of them.

3. Coffee and sunshine particularly when they come together in a neat little package of sitting on the front porch watching the sun come up.

4. Autumn. Today is the official first day of autumn and already we have had some cool overnight temperatures which makes it feel like fall. It is lovely. Also, the leaves are starting to change on some of the trees and I am absolutely enthralled. I love this time of year (and not just because of my birthday.)

5. I have read more this month than I have any of the other months this year so far. I have made time to sit down and read and I am oh so glad that I have. I didn't realize how much I missed it.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 47

Things I am grateful for today

1. A very much needed day off.

2. A new meatloaf recipe that has been so good I have made it every time I have made meatloaf since finding it and everyone eats it like they may never be offered meatloaf again even if the kids do pick at me about making it every week.

3. Being able to stay up way too late on Saturday night reading a memoir. I have developed a new fondness for reading memoirs as is evidenced by the pile of books I am currently hoarding.

4. Elizabeth loves her birthday present which is all I could hope for.

5. 8 days until my 37th birthday!

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 46

Things I am grateful for today

1. The ability to have slept in the past few days because I need to do so. I didn't neglect anything important that needed to be done and I made it to work on time each day so I call that a win.

2. Guests that made me smile at work this week with their thoughtfulness and caring. Sometimes all it takes is a nice word and a smile to turn someone's day around.

3. Beth's birthday present came in the mail yesterday. The delivery statement said it might not be here until the 11th and I was concerned about that since her birthday is on the 10th but it got here in plenty of time and I am very very glad. Now to just be able to hold out and wait until until her birthday to give it to her.

4. Bow season started Saturday. I really want to get back into good enough shape that I can use mine. I tried to pull it back the other day and my arm put up a mighty protest.

5. I finally (!!!) managed to finish the 932 page I have been reading forever. I don't read books that long anymore, for the most part, because I only get a few minutes of reading time here and there and I like to sit down and devour a story. It's been slow at work the past few days I have worked so I have managed to get a lot of reading done.

GIST - The Sunday edition # 45

Things I am grateful for today

1. A day off that included lots of quality time with Chris.

2. Some time in the woods where I discovered that it was lovely and peaceful and I saw some deer.

3. Getting through 8 additional levels of candy crush. (Seriously addictive and also irritating but yet I keep playing.)

4. A clean kitchen and all the laundry done & put away.

5. Sunshine (even it did feel like a bajillion degrees outside.)
