GIST - The Sunday Edition # 66

Things I am grateful for today

1. My vacation has gone well. I have accomplished more than I expected though not all that I had planned which is usual I guess.

2. I got to spend some time with each of the kids separately this week. Tuesday, Nick & I went to Durham to the mall at the Streets of Southpoint so I could go to the Sephora store and he went to Game Stop to sell his xbox and Saturday, Beth & I spent the entire day together running errands and cutting up.

3. I still have 2 more days off for my vacation.

4. It is supposed to snow this week (I doubt it will but it would be nice.)

5. Going to bed early all this week. A couple of nights I was in bed by 9pm which is not normal for me but allowed me to catch up on some much needed sleep.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 65

Things I am grateful for today

1. Today was my last day of work until at least next Tuesday. The night went by fairly quickly. We were busy-ish which was good because it made the time go by.

2. I finished a book and picked up I Am Malala which I have been wanting to read for quite some time.

3. Coffee (this seems to be a constant on my lists.)

4. Elizabeth & I will share some days off next week. I will be on vacation and she will be out of school for teacher workdays/holidays. I am looking forward to spending some time with her.

5. That we had the sense to purchase a kerosene heater during the first cold snap back in November so we weren't freezing during the subsequent ones. It has paid for itself.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 63

Things I am grateful for today

1. the last two days off. I came back to work today and I am refreshed and more energized and better able to deal with the insanity that has become this place during a busy time of year.

2. Elizabeth set up my coffee pot last night. It was sweet of her to do.

3. The nap I took before coming to work. I woke up this morning and showered so my hair could dry before I had to leave and then I realized that I truly didn't feel well so I went back to bed. And there I stayed until it was time for me to get ready for work.

4. Finishing my first book of the year. I finished it yesterday and I really need to do more reading if I'm going to manage to read more books this year than I did last.

5. 15 days until the start of my vacation.

7 Quick Takes # 8

Happy New Year! Ok, so it's a few days past but the sentiment is the same. I am more than excited to see what this year will hold. I didn't make any resolutions this year. I have some goals (some share-able, some private) but no actual resolutions. I did pick a word(s) for the year. Not because everyone seems to be doing it but because the word(s) kept coming up in my mind like a mantra. They are courage and change. It should be interesting.
After working several days in a row during one of the busiest times of the year, I am more than grateful to have had today off and tomorrow to go with it. Plus, my vacation starts in 17 days (not that I'm counting or anything.)
I decided to do something crazy to my hair so I cut it, bleached it and then put in a shocking red color. I have one more application to do which will come tomorrow and then it will be just the way I want it.
There is a cold snap forecast for next week so I decided now might be a good time for me to learn how to fill up and light the kerosene heater. It was cold enough today that I put chili in the crock pot for supper. It turned out really good.
In usual end of hunting season fashion, Chris's truck broke down today. It seems to always break at the end of hunting season. Yes, it is annoying. I refuse to be stressed about it though because we are in a position where we can fix it and not have to worry about how to pay the bills. It's taken us a long time to get to this point and I'm grateful that we got here. (Now if something else breaks before February, all bets are off and I will be pulling what is left of my hair out of my head.)
Ironically, before he informed me the truck was broke, I went to the store and finally got my Christmas present. He had told me to get it but he wanted me to get it because he wasn't completely sure what type I would want so today, I went and got a Nikon DSLR. I am so overjoyed to finally own a big girl camera (which is what we have been teasingly calling it for a few months now.) I can't wait to be able to take a gazillion pictures.
I keep seeing the weather reports where it's going to be 27 degrees here on Tuesday as the high and I get all cold just thinking about it and then I hear of places where the high was something like -34 without the wind chill factored in and I think to myself: How do people actually live in those places? My brain can't comprehend numbers like that. Seriously, isn't that like instant frostbite if you step out of the house with some skin uncovered? Inquiring minds from the South where we never get cold like that wants to know.
