Answer Me This # 4

Answer Me This

1. What is your favorite picture book? Where the Wild Things Are

2. Are you a boycotter? Not really. I normally forget what company or thing we are boycotting at any given moment and then feel bad when someone blows up about it so I don't normally boycott.

3. How do you feel about cheese? I love cheese.

4. How many pairs of sunglasses do you own? One. A prescription pair that I have had for 3 years now which has to be a record. Before I needed glasses, I couldn't keep up with a pair of sunglasses for a week. I guess price is a factor, huh?

5. How long has it been since you last went to the dentist? January

6. If you could visit any religious site in the world, where would you go? Jerusalem. There are a lot of sites there that fall under the religious category for different religions and I think it would be awesome to go there.

My friend would have have had a birthday at the end of this week if he was still with us. I forgot (coping mechanism, maybe) that he's gone. I'll go to pick up the phone and then remember. It sucks each and every time it happens.

I'd really like to get my house the way I want it. It's a never ending battle when I am off work to actually be off work. I always have errands to run and things to do that prevent me from doing what I would like to do.

I really wish Nick could find a job because he's starting to annoy me. That may be mean but enough is enough.

Things I am grateful for today

1. the renewed desire to do stuff other than just work and sleep

2. my bedroom which has lots of space and is just so lovely.

3. compliments from guests at work

4. listening to people chatter away  in the breakfast room about the trip they are going and they all seem so excited.

5. being involved in the celebration of a tour director's 50th wedding anniversary. That's a long time, you guys and they are such an amazing couple.

7 Quick Takes # 32

There are days that I wonder exactly what I am doing here. I look around and really think that I must be missing something big that I am supposed to be doing. And then I look at Beth and think that what I am doing is exactly enough.

My best friend has had health problems for most of her life. The past couple of months have been challenging her in new ways and any prayers you can send up would be greatly appreciated.

People have been less annoying this week at work. I don't know if I have just been in a better mood or if people have been mellow this week but the change in pace is nice.

I really need to get more organized. I think this is a constant refrain of my life.

My pile of books is still sitting in pretty much the same spot I have left them. That's another part of my "needing to be orgainized." You would think that at 38 years old, I would have mastered this art already.

My camera is sitting sadly in the top of my closet. Unused. I haven't had (or more accurately, made) the time to take pictures with it and this is making me sad-face.

I need book suggestions. Any and all are welcome.

Answer Me This # 3

Answer Me This

1. Any big plans for the summer?  I can't plan for next week but I do have stuff I would like to get done over the summer and places I would like to take Elizabeth.

2. What is the strangest thing you believed as a child? That if you swallowed chewing gum, your insides would stick together. Who decided that was a good idea to tell a child?

3. What is your favorite amusement park ride? I've never been to an amusement park. That may be sad since I'm 38 years old. I have been to fairs though and my favorite thing about that was always the swings that went around in the circle and the zipper. I wasn't a fan of the Ferris wheels though.

4. What's on your reading list? It's currently got about 50 books on it. I dream big apparently. I figure at this rate, I'll get through that list by 2017.

5. Have you ever fallen asleep in public? No. I barely fall asleep at home and I'm comfortable there.

6. What is your favorite smell? Citrus/vanilla/cinnamon. What? I can't pick just one.

tidbits of ithings

Elizabeth is adjusting well to both the move and the new school. We were worried about how she would do with the move and having to switch schools but she is surprisingly very good with it. I think it helps that her friends from elementary school are all going to Mac Williams so she knew people already and wasn't the "new" girl.

Work is going well. I see my parents more now that we have moved because our house is on the road that they take to town whenever they go and if they see me sitting outside (a common occurrence) they will stop and chat. I think I like this development.

I'll be glad when summer break is here. I won't really have a break but it will be nice to not have to have a strict routine regarding bedtime and such.

7 Quick Takes # 31

Another week has passed and I haven't attempted to stab anyone with a fork. This, folks, is called a win.

The moving in process is mostly complete. It will be awhile before everything is all set up and like I want it but the hardest parts are over.

I have a lot of organizing to do where it comes to my books and to make the process that much more difficult, we threw away all of my bookshelves. I get to order/buy some now but for the moment, books are everywhere.

Work has been busy. People are definitely traveling again. I'm still not 100% sure where they are all going but they are going. And being grumpy about it.

I have so many plans but no time to implement those plans. Not sure when that will change.
I may take an extended hiatus and just start from scratch when I return. That seems to be  a good idea.
I need a vacation but it won't be for awhile because I cashed mine in to make sure we didn't run out of money during the move. It was the right decision but I think before October gets here and my anniversary rolls around so vacation time is built back up, I will be regretting it.

Answer Me This # 2

Answer Me This

1. What's the best thing about your dad? My dad is awesome. He's always been a hard worker and he loves my mama and his children and God. The older we both get, the more conversations we have and they are always enlightening for me.

2. If you've got kids, what's the best thing about THEIR dad? Their dad is equally as awesome as my dad. I may be biased since I married the man and he's the love of my life but it's also true that his awesomeness is unparalleled.

3. What's the best advice your dad ever gave you? I honestly can't answer this question. I don't recall my daddy giving a lot of advice. That was always my mama's department.

4. What's something you have in common with your dad? Ha! We both have quick tempers. It takes a bit to set them off but when they are set, look out. Also, I can drink coffee any time of day or night regardless of the outside temperature. I remember him doing the same when I was a kid.

5. What is the manliest thing you know how to do? I can plug and switch a house. I'm slow but I can do it. We used to help my daddy with electrical work on houses and that's the job he would always give us while he did the hard stuff. (And then came back and finished the plugs and switches because he's fast as can be and we were very very slow.)

6. Who's your favorite fictional dad? Not sure I have one because I don't really watch tv anymore. I loved Raymond's dad from Everybody loves Raymond because he had to put up with a lot of crap from Marie and the kids and Deborah and the grandkids. Also, the dad from That 70's Show. He was clueless a lot but so much fun to watch.

life can be funny

A month ago, I was considering having to find a place and move before July started and now I'm completely moved in the middle of April.

Last April, I left a job I loved for reasons that I won't get into and this April, I am back at that same job still loving it as much as I did before. I got lucky in coming back here and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars for new beginnings. Also: don't burn bridges. You never know when you may need to cross them again.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 112

Things I am grateful for today

1. We are completely moved in. It's simply a matter of organizing things now but that will come with time.

2. My niece spent the weekend with us after Elizabeth spent Wednesday and Thursday night at her house so they got to hang out together during spring break which was good for them both.

3. After an incredibly busy week at work, tonight is a quiet night. There is business but it's not demanding and overwhelming which is good because I almost don't have a voice left.

4. We are going to be ok. We are actually going to be better than ok. I was a bit concerned there for a little bit but everything is going to be just fine. Sometimes things happen for a reason and I think all that has happened in the past few weeks was God's way of saying "Hey, I have plans for you guys."

5. I have the most wonderful husband in the world. I probably don't sing his praises often enough but he's perfect for me and I love him beyond words.

7 Quick Takes # 30

Everything is completely moved, the power and water are turned off at the old house, the mail has been forwarded and the power has been switched to my name at the new house. That is a weight of worry off my mind.

This week has been insane and it will probably take me a month to recover. I got sick on Tuesday and it's been a nightmare of a week ever since.

Everyone and their brother seems to have been traveling this past week up and down the interstate. I've met my share of people, both good and bad, this week. Overall it's been tolerable but some people are just extra as my sister would say.

Elizabeth spent Wednesday and Thursday night at my sister's house and Codi is over here for tonight and Saturday. I am glad they got to spend some time together during spring break.

My house is slowly coming together. The bathroom in the master bedroom still needs some work and we have a lot of organizing to do but it's really starting to look good and I'm happy about that.

I don't have a day off again until next Wednesday and I am feeling the exhaustion set in already. I keep forgetting that I'm not young anymore and can't stay up all night and get up at 6 or 7 in the morning and run all day, rinse and repeat by 7 or 8 days.
Next week should be more low key. It won't be as busy at work and everything will be back to some sense of semi-normal. I think. I can hope.

Answer Me This # 1

I'm going to make Thursday posts now be a version of Answer Me This. I've seen it around the internet and went back to the very beginning and copied all the questions. My weeks won't match up with anyone else's week but that's ok.

Answer Me This

1. How long have you lived in your current home? 6 days. Before that, we lived in Dublin for 1 year and 10 months and before that we lived in Wade for 14 years. I'm hoping our new place becomes a place like Wade where we stayed and stayed and stayed some more.

2. How do you find out about news and current events? A mix of watching News 14 Carolina at work, Facebook and my homepage on my computer is set to Yahoo. I like several major news outlets on Facebook so headlines show up in my newsfeed and I get a weekly recap with Flipboard. Oh... and I buy a Sunday paper every week (mostly for the coupons and the triple Sudoku puzzle but I read it front to back and catch up that way too.

3. Would you be able to make change for a twenty right now? For a dollar? Yes for the dollar, no for the $20.

4. What's the craziest food you've ever eaten? I ate a ghost pepper one time. Yes, it was a dare. Yes, it was so hot that my sinuses immediately started draining themselves and tears poured out of my eyeballs and there was not enough milk on the planet to make it better. No, I'll never do that again.

5. Which of the commonly removed parts have you had removed? (tonsils, wisdom teeth, appendix, etc.) All of my wisdom teeth have been removed.

6. What's your favorite sport to watch on TV? I have grown to like football (which is good since it's on every Sunday at my house.) I like to watch tumbling/step/gymnastics/figure skating stuff.

Monday, April 6, 2015

The move is happening and we are almost done with it. Another small load and having all the utilities turned off and the mail forwarded is all that remains.

I don't like moving but I used it as an opportunity to get rid of some stuff and to consolidate other things.

The bedrooms are huge. I am so loving all the space. And there is an attic. I've only ventured into long enough to clean it out and to make sure that no one was living up there (LOL). I may have watched one too many horror movies.

GIST - The Sunday Edition (and also Easter!) # 111

Things I am grateful for today.

1. We got almost everything moved this weekend.

2. The new house is amazing and it has a yard too it (which I have missed since we moved to Dublin) and there are flowers and it is glorious.

3. fresh pots of coffee

4. getting to spend a few hours with my best friend on Saturday. We don't get to see one another often so it was lovely to be able to sit and catch up for awhile.

5. my commute to work now takes approximately 3 minutes.

It's official

The house is officially ours. We paid the rent and the deposit yesterday and started moving stuff in. The owners aren't quite finished with what they want to do but we are working around each other.

I am super excited and now my stress has to do with moving all of our stuff and not with still having to find a place in which to move it.

It's very close to my work and to his work. I am hoping this turns into a long term move. The potential is there for that so that's a good sign.

7 Quick Takes # 29

Moving has commenced and it is as painful as one might expect when trying to move years worth of stuff.

Monday, after returning from our anniversary trip, we were driving down Highway 53 on our way to work when we saw a "For rent" sign in a yard of a house I have long admired and that has come up for rent before (but had never called about because I had a place to live) so we stopped and got the number and the man and his wife came over right then to show it to us. We paid the deposit and the first month's rent today and started moving in this afternoon.

I had today off and again tomorrow and it will be filled with more moving. I'm not amused but I am excited about the house.

The bedrooms in this new place are huge and I just can't get over how this house is now ours. There's a 2 car detached garage/storage space out back and a chicken coop and a rabbit hutch and I am just in love with it.

For the first time in 2 years we have 2 bathrooms again. The number of bathrooms weren't a deciding factor because we managed to make one bathroom work for the (almost) 2 years we lived in Dublin.

I have to transfer Beth to a new school after spring break ends because there was not a single soul at the school today to unenroll her from her old school so I could enroll her in the new one. That's the one thing I dislike about all this: I didn't want to have switch up schools during the school year for her. However, she is super excited about going to a new school and so I think everything will work out just fine.

Being just a couple of minutes from work doesn't hurt my feelings either. I'm really going to love it here.

I think I am so over people and their drama. Going to hibernate for a few days and pack and move and hope I don't lose my mind in the process.

April Fool's Day

Normally people have plenty of opportunity to prank me. I always look for the google prank because it's usually hilarious. This year, not fooled by any of it.

The stress isn't over by any stretch of the imagination but it's getting there. I think we may have found the perfect house for us. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed just in case.
