GIST - The Sunday Edition # 119

Things I am grateful for today

1. Having time to do stuff.

2. I did the yard this week (Thursday and Friday) and I did a really good job. Including the ditch that despises me.

3. I saw my parents 3 times this week. I think I have seen them more since we moved than I have in the 10 years before we moved.

4. Being loved.

5. Having two days off this week (not in a row) but with nothing much planned for either one.

7 Quick Takes # 36

I don't have words for all the shenanigans that are taking place in my family, I gave serious consideration of changing my phone number but realized that wouldn't actually work and I've had this number for years so I decided to hang on to it.

I see a light at the end of the tunnel for a situation that I have found myself entangled in. Here's hoping it comes soon.

The weather has been so beautiful here lately. We are almost at the point of needing a lot of rain but I have to admit that I have enjoyed the sunshine.

If you need something motivational to follow, look up #TeamVictor on Facebook. This young man is most amazing and there are many mornings that my morning coffee is accompanied by tears after I have read something that his mom or dad or twin brother has posted.

The end of school. Almost here. They have been doing testing and I think they have one more test to take and then it will be fun days until the end of school.

Fun days will ensue with Elizabeth begging me to let her stay home on the last day of school. You let Nick do that, she will say. And she will be right. But I haven't decided about her yet.

She's been teaching herself to cook and bake and she does a phenomenal job of it. I may give up my time in the kitchen altogether.

6. When is the last time you saw/spoke to your grandparents? All of my grandparents have been departed for years now so it's been a lot longer than I like to remember.

Memorial Day

Please be advised that I have low tolerance for stupidity today.

Also, I have a low tolerance for people who don't know the meaning of Memorial Day.

And a very low tolerance for companies who decide to have Memorial Day sales. That really grates my nerves.

My nerves are already fragile. They need no extra grating.

Happy Memorial Day to the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. May God grant you peace.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 118

Things I am grateful for today

1. People have been pretty nice all week.

2. After weeks of being extremely busy, we have slowed down a little bit and that's a good thing.

3. Rain followed by sunshine. Everything is green and gorgeous.

4. Learning to say no.

5. Knowing that I won't always feel guilty for saying no. Sometimes, no is a very necessary thing to utter.

7 Quick Takes # 35

If I had my way everyone would get along. I know this seems like rainbow pipe dreams but seriously, all of this bickering is hurting my heart.

I am always somehow in the middle and I am trying to take a step back away from everyone and everything who is stressing me out.

Moving here was one of the better decisions we have made in the past few years. My commute is 5 minutes round trip. That gives me loads of time to actually do other stuff. Like cook and sleep.

The local cable company runs a psa every hour that announces the time and then follows it with "it's a perfect time to talk to your kids about (insert random thing like drinking, drugs etc here)

It's almost pool season. I'm debating having a pool put in. I'm leaning towards no at this point. It's just another expense and there are so many other worthy things I could be using that money for.

Mr. A. calls almost every night I work and picks with me. He makes me smile on the regular.

Answer Me This # 7

Answer Me This

1.When driving, are you more likely to listen to the radio, to CDs or an iPod, or nothing at all? If it's a short trip, nothing at all. Long trips, I tend to turn on the radio.

2. Do you prefer window or aisle? Window

3. Do you fall asleep on your side, back, or stomach? What position are you in when you wake up? On my side. On the sane side I fall asleep is the position in which I wake. Which I find to be weird.

4. When is the last time you visited a zoo, circus, carnival, county fair or parade? I think I went to a parade last Christmas. I can't remember the last fair or carnival or zoo and I've never been to the circus.

5. Do you have a favorite quote or inspirational saying? Evil will triumph when good men do nothing ~ Edward Burke

6. What's the best thing about summer? Birds, butterflies, flowers blooming and starry skies. Also no set schedule for Elizabeth.

Garfield

I feel like Garfield, wanting to hide my head under the blankets and only come out if there is the promise of lasagna.

We have been doing a lot more cooking and bringing dinner to work every night which is a really good thing. I wish my children would do a better job of keeping the kitchen clean but I get n there and clean it up when it gets to be more than I can stand.

Mondays still suck. I'm guessing it's going to take more than a positive attitude.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 117

Things I am grateful for today

1. The flowers growing around my house. I love flowers but I don't have the slightest hint of a green thumb so it is lovely to me that the person who had this house before us (or maybe the person who had it before them) planted all sorts of flowers and they are blooming and so very gorgeous.

2. Codi spends a lot of time at our house over the weekends and I love having her over.

3. Compliments from random strangers.

4. I've started vaping and I think I like it enough that it may help me completely quit smoking.

5. Spring is in the air all around and while I could do without the sneezing, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous.

Answer Me This # 6

Answer Me This

1. What do your want to do this summer? I want to give Elizabeth an enjoyable summer. Perhaps with a trip or two somewhere in there. We don't do that kind of thing often.

2. What's your favorite kind of pie? Anything with fruit. Apple and peach are big winners. So is key lime.

3. How much sleep do you need each day? How much do you get? Ideally I need about 9 hours of sleep each night. I usually get about 6 or so. Combination of insomnia and too much stress.

4. Do you prefer to swim in the pool, lake, river or ocean? The ocean

5. Do you know any poems by heart? Not anymore. I used to know several by heart but the older I get, the less I remember.

6. Do you use the public library? The library and I are on a first name basis. I have probably funded a branch with all of my late fees over the years. Or at least multiple shelves. I love the library because I can indulge in my love for reading without breaking my bank account.

We need some rain

It's starting to get ridiculous how many times a storm has popped up only to skirt around us.

Work is going good. I had a decent week last week and a pretty good weekend.

Trying to get back into the swing of things and still setting up the house. It's a work in progress and will probably continue to be a work a progress for a hot minute.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 116

Things I am grateful for today

1. I caught up on all the laundry. I really felt like that was never going to happen.

2. I found some new, interesting people to read on the Internet. I love all of my favorites but I've been seeking new stuff and I think I found enough new to hold me over for awhile.

3. Conversations with my mama. They don't happen often but when they do, they are amazing.

4. a job that I love. I am so very glad I came back to it.

5. I feel better than I have in a really long time. I don't know what caused it but I hope it continues. Feeling good may seem like a small thing but when you haven't felt good in years, small things are a blessing.

7 Quick Takes # 34

It's almost time for bed and I could not be more happy about that. I haven't been sleeping all that well.

Mother's Day is in a couple of days. My mother is upset with my sister over the baptism of my niece because my sister doesn't want us to go. This has hurt my mama's feelings and that makes me sad.

I think Gina doesn't want them to go because there was a big blowup not too long ago about her girlfriend and she wants to enjoy her daughter's day without any perceived negativity. I can understand that. I just wished she had waited until after the fact to tell them about it.

I don't have any plans for Mother's Day. Nothing special going on. And I'm ok with that. We have been playing catch up since the move so I'm not over here pouting about anything.

Bacon and tomato specialty chicken from Dominos' just may be one of the best things ever.

I need to find some additional people to read. A lot of my regular favorites have stopped blogging and reading is what keeps me going on those nights that it is super slow.

Just over one month of school left.

Answer Me This # 5

Answer Me This

1. What is your favorite room in the house? My bedroom and the kitchen. My kitchen is lovely and I like to be in it cooking. My new bedroom is large and it's awesome and I have so much space; much more than I have ever had before.

2. Do you subscribe to any magazines or other periodicals? Time magazine, US Weekly, Family Circle. My Time subscription runs out in November and I won't be renewing. Ditto for the Family Circle. The US Weekly is a magazine I will get until 2017 because I bought a multi year subscription (guilty pleasure) I'm about done with magazines though because I tend to read almost everything online.

3. What is your least favorite sound? Anything with a screeching sound or scraping sound. It grates my nerves.

4. What was your favorite TV show growing up? MacGyver and the Ateam. Don't you dare laugh!

5. What is your favorite TV show now? Street racers, pretty much everything on the History channel and Chopped. (I don't watch much tv but when I do it's either Food network, History or Discovery)

Happy Monday

I am not a fan of Mondays. I can't even really explain why. It's not that the weekend is over because I work at a job that requires me to work weekends on the regular. Mondays & I just don't get along well. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. I'm going to try to do something about that and start making Mondays more positive.

We'll see how that goes.

7 Quick Takes # 33

There are 5 Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in this month. I read somewhere that months like this have a special name but now can't recall what the name was or where I read it.

I have finally weeded through the stack of magazines that I had sitting in the basket. My new goal is to read each issue as it comes in instead of letting it pile up and then attempting to read 9 months worth at one time.

I have 3 subscriptions. US Weekly (don't judge... it's my guilty pleasure and I got a 3 year subscription at Christmas for $9.99), Time and Family Circle. I used to get several other magazines but a few of them stopped putting out issues (look at you, Ladies Home Journal) and the other couple just became clutter.

Chris subscribes to a couple of hunting magazines that he is interested in and he's happy. I'm happy that he's reading something besides the back of shampoo bottles and he gets to read about something that interests him.

I am trying to decide how I want to do things for summer vacation which seems so far away but really isn't. I have a feeling Elizabeth will attempt to drive me insane before it's over.

Here's a curious question brought about by my going to the drink machine just now: Why does Diet Mountain Dew have 10 calories per bottle but Diet Pepsi has 0?

I really need to get a hobby. One that is relaxing and fulfilling and otherwise going to be useful.
