39 things about me for my 39th birthday ( a few days late)

39 things for my 39th birthday

1. My actual first name is Wanda. I dropped it when I got married in 1997 because everyone has always called me Marie, my middle name. It was easier to be Marie {my maiden name} [new last name] than to keep the Wanda.

2. My grandfather is responsible for naming me Wanda. My mother wanted to name me Elsie Yvonne and he told her that she shouldn't hang me with a name like that. He liked Wanda Marie and she agreed to use it. I am grateful.

3. My favorite colors are blue and purple.

4. I love to read. I don't read as much as I used to but I still have those periods of time where all I want to do is lose myself in a good fiction book. I love when those times occur.

5. I've been married for 18 years, with the same man for 22 years. I can't imagine life without him.

6. I have a degree in art.

7. I didn't realize how much I liked working with the public until Chris got hurt in September of 2009 and I took a job working at a hotel. I love the people I have had the fortune to both meet and work with.

8. I have favorites among the guests who come to the hotel. Some of them are repeat customers and they have become like family.

9. There is no bad mood that I have that can't be alleviated with music. I will pretty much listen to anything.

10. Solo dance parties are good for the soul.

11. I made the decision today to quit smoking. It's going to be difficult but I am determined to do it.

12. I keep my hair super short because that's how I like it and I decided I was over with the pleasing of other people. Best decision I ever made.

13. I just recently joined a church and will be baptized soon. The church I am attending doesn't have its own baptismal pool so they are making arrangements to use the one at the church down the street. Elizabeth and I will be baptized at the same time.

14. I keep a paper gratitude journal by my bed and I try to remember to write in it often. I'm less successful at this than I would like to be.

15. I have an older half sister, an older half brother, and a younger sister none of whom are speaking to me. The oldest two resent me because I am my mother's child and my younger sister is going through some life changing stuff and she has cut off ties with not only me but also with my parents. This makes me all kinds of sad.

16. I can't successfully do a cartwheel but I taught my younger sister how to do one and my mother, to this day, says that teaching someone to do something that you yourself can't do is impossible. The fact remains that I can't do a cartwheel but I could explain it good enough to my sister that she learned how to do one.

17. I don't watch tv nor do I go to movies. I have nothing against either of these things. I just don't have the time to do them or the schedule to get involved with prime time TV.

18. I've always wanted to visit Ireland and Australia. I probably will never get to either place.

19. I prefer sapphires to diamonds.

20. I like silver jewelry better than gold jewelry. For our 18th anniversary, Chris replaced my original gold wedding band with a silver one. The good one resides in my jewelry box and I will one day give it to either Nick or Elizabeth.

21. I have my mom's original wedding band set from 1976 locked away in my safe. She gave it to me years ago and while it fits me, I'm afraid to break it so I put it away. One day, that will also go to one of my children.

22. I like to sing but only if no one is around even though on the rare occasions that I have allowed someone to listen, they have all complimented my singing voice.

23. I have no musical instrument talent whatsoever. None. Zilch. Nada.

24. I like to color so I was not really surprised when the adult coloring book craze swept the stage. I have been printing out and coloring pictures and buying coloring books for a number of years. I did indulge in 2 of the "adult" coloring books because they had pretty designs.

25. I have my own mega pack of markers, colored pencils and crayons. No, I don't share them with anyone.

26. My longest running craft project is a bass with the words "gone fishing". It's a cross stitch that I started in 1997 with the intention of giving it to Chris for our 1st anniversary in 1998. I'm sad to say that the fish still currently resides in my craft box. I am aiming to finish it by our 40th anniversary. ;-)

27. I've lost 25 pounds in the past 3 months. I still have no idea how but I am not complaining.

28. I wore a size 12/14 dress to church last week and I can't remember the last time I was able to wear a size 12/14.

29. Most of the stuff in my closet is now too big but I refuse to go shopping yet because every time I lose some weight, I end up buying new clothes and then gaining the weight back. I don't want to fall into that trap this time.

30. My best friend is someone I have known since middle school and our friendship is currently going on 25 years. We have had our ups and downs and gone periods of time without talking but we always manage to reconnect and it's like there was never any down time. I love her dearly and have been making it a point to tell her that lately because I have come to the realization that life is fragile and no one is guaranteed tomorrow.

31. I don't like conflict and will do a lot to avoid it if I can help it. I prefer to be a peacemaker. That's not always possible though.

32. My favorite place to go to for getting away purposes is the beach. We sometimes go just for the evening to walk on the beach and have supper. I love those spontaneous trips.

33. I had never been to the mountains until a couple of years ago when we went to Asheville for our wedding anniversary. This past March, we went to Maggie Valley (also for our wedding anniversary) and it was gorgeous. We went to the Great Smokey Mountains and into Tennessee and it was one of the best trips we have ever taken.

34. I prefer to stay home versus going out. I'm an introverted homebody when I'm not working. I guess though it's understandable when you think about how social I have to be for my job.

35. I drink a lot of coffee and water. Coffee in the mornings, water in the evenings.

36. I'm a creature of habit.

37. I dislike disorder and chaos.

38. I prefer to text rather than talk on the phone.

39. My natural hair color is dark brown. I prefer to keep it some shade of red though. Usually a dark auburn or burgundy color.
