GIST - The Sunday Edition # 166

Things I am grateful for today

1. a fairly quiet evening

2. Cooler weather. It's a nice break for the sweltering heat.

3. It's almost Christmas! I still need to decorate because I've not been feeling well so there I haven't taken the time to do it but we (Elizabeth & I) plan to do that on Wednesday which is my next day off.

4. good books to dive into on slow evenings.

5. being loved unconditionally.

30 days, 69,000+ words

My grand plan for the month of November was to do post on the blog every day & do NaNoWriMo. The blog posting didn't work out because I got so caught up in other stuff: working full time, scribbling in my spare & not so spare time, the Thanksgiving holiday, raking my sister's leaves, etc.,etc.

I did manage to crank out almost 70,000 in a fantasy novel that leaves me pleased. I'll tackle edits in December & January & rewrite what doesn't work after.

In the mean time, on this last day of November, I am fighting a killer cold & just may spend today doing as little as possible.

My phone has a green line down th screen that is annoying me tremendously. I have no idea what happened to it to cause it to do that & it is irritating.

We had a really good day, Chris & I did. We went to Uwharrie National Forest & Morrow Mountain State Park.

This is just confusing

I'm making an effort to embrace new things but honestly, WordPress confuses me & all the help articles in the world are not helping. I have the idea of what I want but no clear idea of how to accomplish it. *sad face*

I have the next 2 days off work so I will attempt again tomorrow.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 165

Things I am grateful for today:

1. The sunshine. After several days of dreary weather, the past few days of cool, crisp sunshine has been lovely.

2. An hour long conversation with a friend before I had to get ready for work. She and her family are in the process of moving to a new house in the city in which they live so we talked while she was cleaning up the old house.

3. That Chris will be home from his trip sometime tomorrow. I will be glad to see him.

4. a set of books I have been waiting for finally arrived.

5. a slowish night at work

Patriot Guard

A recent Patriot Guard ride to escort a local soldier on his final journey home. The fire trucks on every overpass made me cry each & every time.

LAY'S® Poppables White Cheddar Flavored Potato Snacks

These need to come with a warning label.... Highly addictive...lol. Also, I really need them to be made in single serving bags because I don't think the entire huge bag is meant to be 1 serving even though how it usually ends up.

books

There's nothing quite like a really good set of books to make the day go better.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 164

Things I am grateful for today :

1. A beautiful fall day. The leaves are turning gold & red & the temperature is pleasant.

2. A good book to dive into after my to do list is done.

3. Having the day of the time change off. This day always messes with me so this year I was smart & scheduled myself to be off.

4. Coping mechanisms that work. Controlled breathing & meditation are both doing good things for me.

5. Being loved.

Words

Scribbling is going as well as I expected. I write for a few hours, procrastinate for a few hours, write for a few more hours, invent 4987623 things to do to avoid writing and then scribble frantically to try to maintain some sort of semi reasonable word count.

On a semi-related note: my closet has never been so organized.

double donation day

Tomorrow is double donation day at NaNoWriMo. They have contests going on all day long and a $25 donation gets you a halo and the $50 donor gifts. All gifts, regardless of amount, are beneficial and help keep their programs going. Consider making a donation if you haven't already.

....

I really need the blogger app to work so I can post pictures. It's not worked in forever and apparently, Google has given up on updating the app and no amount of asking their support team for help is ever going to get it fixed.

I've found a new way to procrastinate to avoid writing: It's called Yahtzee with Buddies. I really need to put the phone away and shut off notifications on everything and just write. Let's see how many creative ways I can invent to avoid it this month.

new month

Today has been a busy day. I woke up later than I wanted to and rushed out the door to go to the bank to deposit a check. Came home, had coffee, got ready for work. There was other stuff in between all of that but that's the gist of it.

Work was interesting. Not too busy but busy enough to keep me from going crazy. I spent some time researching bullet journals (for like the 50th time) and started my own for November. I'm not sure how much I will like it but that's the beauty of bullet journals. I can figure out what works for me and adapt as time goes on.

I wrote some stuff for NaNoWriMo, set some writing goals and some non writing goals for the month of November.

  • blog every day. (This one will be difficult for me because I just plain forget)
  • meditate every day
  • read at least 1 book a week
  • attempt NaNoWriMo (I'm in my 12th year. Some years I finish; some years, I don't)
  • exercise at least 3 days a week.
Nothing is outrageous or unattainable. I'll just have to pay attention to time and use it wisely.

Things aren't always what they seem

It's been a rather trying week. I had the last two days off from work and I managed to get things done that I had been wanting to do: rearranging some dressers, cleaning out my closet, setting up my desk. I cooked dinner one night; we went out the second night.

I find myself a bit anxious as today goes on. I'm not sure what has the anxiety increased; I only know that I really don't like it. I think it may have to do with Chris going on a work trip this next week but I'm not totally sure. Deep breathing exercises have helped some but there's still anxiety there. I'll get through it as I always do but it's disconcerting to feel this way without knowing the reason why.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 161

Things I am grateful for today

1. coffee

2. The ability to finally accept compliments graciously when they are given.

3. new series to read

4. The butterflies who are still flitting around the flowers. I know they will be gone soon so I am enjoying them now.

5. being loved.

....

The moon will be full tonight. I'll be sure to step outside after dark to watch it for a few minutes. There's something magical and soothing about seeing the moon hung low in the sky in all her glory.

I'm approximately 3 chapters from finishing A Game of Thrones. I went ahead and requested book 2 & 3 because once I got past the first few chapters in the first one, I flew through the rest of the book. I have tried to read the series at least 4 times and always get hung up on the size of the books without ever actually starting one. This time was different and I absolutely love the story and can't wait to continue it. I have not seen a single episode of the show so for me, it's unspoiled.

I'm looking forward to Saturday because I will have the day off from work. I have no idea what I plan to do yet but I'm sure part of it will include letting Elizabeth drive somewhere because she is all about the driving these days.

The rest of my book awaits.

Tired

I was going to post a picture & no words today because I have been up since 3:30 this morning but the app won't let me post a photo. That's slightly annoying. I'll figure it out later. For now, I am going to take my incredibly exhausted self to bed.

And then...

The news continues to be nothing but bad in the world. It's draining & depressing & sometimes, I just have to step away & regroup. A lot of people call that privilege to be able to do that & while I understand that it is a privilege to be able to shut down & not partake of what is going on in the world, it's also a form of self care. I can't be effective to anyone or anything if I don't take care of myself first. And so, that is what I will continue to unapologetically do.

A short list

I had different ideas for a post today but with all the horrific news in the world today, I decided to instead post a short gratitude list.

1. Baby hummingbirds have taken up residence in the flowering tree beside the shop & they are so adorable. And so tiny.

2. Elizabeth has driven a handful of times now & she is doing so very good with it. I am proud of her.

3. I made million dollar spaghetti for supper & it was amazing. Time consuming but amazing.

4. I got to spend some time with my sister this evening & as always, it was just what I needed after a trying day.

5. A phone call with both my best friend, April, and my mama today. I love them both dearly.

GIST - The Sunday Edition #160

Things I am grateful for today

1. The weather has temporarily turned cool & crisp giving me a taste of what autumn will feel like when Mother Nature decides to stop throwing hissy fits and making it still feel like summer.

2. The Calm app which I have used for 110 (!) days in a row is helping me to handle the curve balls that life likes to throw in rapid succession. I'm infinitely grateful that I took the time to actually start a meditation practice and to continue with it.

3. My solitary coffee time in the mornings.

4. The butterflies and the hummingbirds that are still flitting around the flowers. They'll be gone soon as the weather cools off so I am enjoying them while I can.

5. A new book series to immerse myself into thanks to my coworker Valerie. She's gotten me hooked on some reading that I wouldn't have picked up on my own and I'm glad because the books are well written and the stories are both interesting and entertaining.

....

So far this year May and September have been the months that I have read the most. I keep a list of the books I read just so I can keep up with all the titles. I'm not sure why May was a heavy month but I know September was book heavy because I had a stack of library books that I could not renew another time and I was determined to read them all before having to give them back...lol. I was jokingly calling it 14 books in 17 days because everything was due by September 17th. I should probably just check out less books but I managed to read them all and I enjoyed every last one of them. It's time to go back to the library and build up a new stack.

GIST - The Sunday Edition # 159

Things I am grateful for today

1. A quiet start to my morning, even though it was really early (4:30 am). Coffee outside while watching the sun rise was a good start to the day.

2. apple pie moonshine. It was ah-mazing.

3. a slow-ish night at work.

4. my new 5 minute gratitude journal (I'm going to keep it for 6 months and decide if I want to do another 6 months after.)

5. seeing Jessica for the 2nd day in a row. She's been assigned to this side of town for the next 3 weeks so she's been stopping by about half way through my shifts. She's a complete riot and never fails to make me laugh.

things don't always go as planned

When I renewed my domain name for 2 years, I had plans for this space that included being here more often than once every 3 months. I still do but I also needed to take some serious me time and figure some things out.

I finally am feeling more like myself and so, here I am... peeking in to blow the cobwebs off this space and out of my brain. We'll see what happens from here.

Me time

I have put so much energy into taking care of everyone & everything for the past couple of years that I have completely forgotten to take care of myself.

This weekend is going to be all about doing what I want to do. I'm not answering phone calls or messages. I am going to take the next 3 days, since I have the weekend off, to refill my own well.

Next week is going to be a busy one with work & Mama's surgery. I have appointments scheduled for myself on Thursday and Friday.

I'm no good to anyone when I am burning the candle at both ends. Hopefully this weekend will help change that a bit.
